Shielding a url
Does the tiny url actually shield a url from others seeing the name in the bottom left corner?

If not, can anyone suggest a way to shield a url?

Thanks,

Robert

A tinyurl.com link would typically show the tiny url address at the bottom of the browser screen. If someone clicks the link, the full real URL will show in the address bar. There is an add-on for Firefox that will show the real URL of a tiny url link when you hover the cursor over the link.

Trying to hide or shield the true URL of a link for legitimate purposes may be self defeating. Since obscuring the true URL is a typical ploy of people trying to distribute viruses and malware, many internet security programs and some browsers will detect the attempt and either block the link or pop up a warning screen before allowing the user to follow such a link.
