AVG 8.5 automitically switching off
Operating system is Windows Vista Home Basic on a laptop. AVG 8.5 was installed a while back to replace previously installed AVG 7.5 which was completely uninstalled prior to putting on new AVG 8.5 Free. All seemed to be fine for a few months.

A friend also installed Adwatch and Adaware for us as extra protection ?

PROBLEM = about a month ago, when we switched on laptop, got message at bottom right hand side of screen showing shield icon with cross through it saying "windows has detected multiple security issues", and if we look at Security Center via Control Panel, it says under "Malware" that AVG antivirus is turned off, but Windows Defender is running okay.
By taking the option "turn on AVG 8.5 Free", following the steps, leaving the laptop on for a while before shutting down ~ when we turn the computer back on, the AVG protection is normally back up & running according to Security Center.
But the next time we turn the laptop back on, we are back to the same "AVG antivirus is turned off" message /problem again.

If we look at the AVG overview via the desktop icon it ALWAYS says all up & running & up-to-date !

So far have tried the following :-
1) Have uninstalled Adwatch and Adaware programs.
2) Have tried uninstalling and re installing AVG 8.5 Free several times ~ it always says it has been successfully installed ~ and then the whole problem process returns.

Can anyone help / suggest how we can rectify this problem ~ apart from using a different Free Antivirus programm !!

Although we are not computer experts, we are prepared to have a go to try & resolve it ourselves if anyone can suggest a course of action.

Many thanks.

Please try installing avira antvir personal edition (free). See if it remains turned on.

Did you use the AVG Remover to uninstall AVG? If not, you should.

Tried using AVG Remover several times, but it failed to uninstall ~ so deleted AVG via Programs & Features screen in Conrol Center. Reinstalled AVG yet again, and we back to old problem. Think we will try avira antivir as fed up with AVG.
