The Essential Free Malware Progammes to Have On your PC?
Hi guys,

Having a PC Spring Clean and I was wondering what are the essential Malware/Bot Removal software everyone should have on their computer?

I have AVG 8.5 which I love, especially as it does a scheduled scan so you can just leave it to work its magic.

I have Adaware, Malwarebytes and Spy-Bot (which I can't install!) on my PC but I wondered if that was over doing it. Also, if any of these can be programmed to have scehduled scans it would be great as I could leave them in the background.

I know this will throw up a lot of personal opinion but I'm happy to go with the consensus!

Big thanks,

Gav

a-squared Free is a good addition, though it throws up a few false positives, which you can always check via virustotal or jottis malware scan (Pl.Google them), before taking any action.

AVG 8.5, alas is running out of steam and it's dedicated core are moving away.
Malwarebytes in realtime should be good.

Ad-Aware is not very popular these days after they have started selling it and moreover you don't know what you are quarantining or deleting.

The Tea-timer in Spybot is a beauty.

You can download and use Emco's Malware Destroyer.http://www.emco.is/products/malware-...r/download.php

The warning bark of Scotty(WinPatrol) is a joy. Place it in the traybar and off you go!

I have read that SpywareBlaster does not run in the background using resources. It works with your browser using killbits to prevent malware from being downloaded.

SpywareBlaster. This program detects known spyware ActiveX (bad 16's in HJT Log) controllers and prevents Web Pages from putting them on your system. Gator will never again ask you to download something. Xupiter and Bonzi Buddy will never again come knocking. All you have to do to keep SpywareBlaster aware of the latest threats is to regularly update the software's database.

Because of its nature, ActiveX makes a very good platform for installing spyware, adware, dialers, and hijackers. So, SpywareBlaster will help prevent this.

Hey,

Just to add to the list ComboFix

It is intended for users with advanced computer skills to run only on occasions where a regular antivirus would not detect certain malware, or where an antivirus cannot update or otherwise function. (Wiki)
