Anti-Spyware Software Concerns
Hello.

I have Spyware Blaster for an anti-spyware suite. It is good, but it doesn't seem to have a on-demand scanner. Is it necessary that I must have another anti-spyware software which incorporates an on-demand scanner? If so, which would be my choice?

SuperAntiSpyware, AdAware, or Spyware Doctor?

Btw, does malwarebytes antimalware eliminate spyware too?If it does, then i dont need to look for another software, cuz i already have this.

Thanks in advance to any suggestions.

Regards.

SuperAntiSpyware (free or pro) is miles ahead. If I am right SpywareBlaster with SpywareGuard is a background scanner.SAS Pro has real-time protection. Most people have both SAS and MalwareBytes, because of the assumption that you have one dedicated for detecting spyware and one for malware.Ideal not to run two malware detection programs in real-time.

SpywareBlaster well worth keeping>although no user scanner>it protects IE home page>Restricted sites etc.

There are so many new threats every day (I've seen 20,000/day, and 800/minute as estimates of how many new ones appear) that no single program can be relied upon to find them all. It's a very good idea to scan with other ones from time to time, though you should have only one "real-time" scanner running.

Free anti-malware:

Dr. Web Cure-It
Comodo Anti-Malware
Threatfire Free Edition
MalwareBytes trial
A-Squared
PrevX CSI Free Version
Spybot S&D
RunScanner
Ad-Aware
SuperAntiSpyware
Spyware Eliminator
Emco Malware Destroyer
Spyware Doctor
All-Seeing Eye (Monitors system - pretty annoying at first until all safe processes have been approved, but settings can be changed)
Arovax Anti-spyware
Trend-Micro Rootkit Buster
F-Secure Blacklight
Bootzilla (Bootable anti-malware CD with many other tools.)

"Instant" Anti-virus (No installation--just download and run the scanner):

Dr. Web Cure-It
McAfee Stinger
Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool (This one installs but offers to uninstall after the scan. A fresh download contains the most recent virus definitions.)
PING with Clam (A bootable disk imaging CD with added anti-virus)

List of freeware security software
Guide to Free Security Software (ScanComplete Site)

Virtualization Solutions (Malware attacks become impossible because either the browser or the whole operating system are isolated from the real system):

SandboxIE (Virtualizes IE, Firefox, or any other browser and works on most other programs, too)
VMWare Browser Appliance (Runs in the free VMWare Player. The Player also will run any of 100's of preconfigured operating system and appliance images downloadable for free from VMWare, and you can even make your own VM's to run in it with the open-source VMmanager)
Artificial Dynamics Safe Space (Similar to SandboxIE, safe browsing and protection from malware and hackers)
Fortes Grand Virtual Sandbox
Microsoft Web Sandbox (Open-Source) (In development but usable)
Returnil Virtual System (The Premium version allows you to save all changes inside the virtual OS to the real system, but even the free version has a virtual drive where items can be saved outside the virtual container)
Windows Steady State (Now supports Vista, too)

Spywareblaster is good since it doesn't consume any system resources it just blocks malware from getting into your computer when browsing certain sites.

It's usually good to use both SUPERAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes' Anti-malware since no scanner detects everything so by using 2 extra scanners you'll have a better chance of detecting things,
Don't really go by the names wth the more popular scanners since all the popular Anti-Virus's are Anti-malware they just are still using the term Anti-Virus,
And SUPERAntiSpyware is an anti-malware as well actually,
With all the malware being created and the malware doing different things these days the scanners have branched out.

Spyware Eliminator! The free version tantalizingly shows you the spyware on your system. you have to buy(shareware) the product to remove them. Installed the Arovax Anti Spyware. It also includes the registry in it's search and showed up with 51 registry problems. A perfectly running system, protected by Returnil premium version and registry problems! Moral: Touching the registry is akin to torching it, unless you are a thorough pro'.
