Avira A/V ads on desktop
After reading so many good comments about Avira A/V, I decided to ditch AVG and try the program. Everything is fine EXCEPT the ads that appear randomly wanting me to update and buy the $$$ version. This is annoying as &$^%#.

Any way to stop these from showing up ??? Have adblock + but it apparently doesn't cover this situation.

Thanks
Ray

I believe those ONLY come up when it runs it's virus definitions update. You can schedule that for times when you are not using the computer if you have an always-on connection.

I also think that it only is used in the free version. The ad is for the option to upgrade to a premium, paid version. IMO, a small price for such a good, free, antivirus program.

LauraMJ...

Appreciate the reply...but it's still "nag-ware" and really isn't an effective method to use to
induce someone to buy the product.

Thanks

An excellent response, excepting that you are in violation of the EULA.

Closing an ad once a day seems a small price to pay for an AV. I close it each night when it updates and don't consider it as much of a nuisance as spending money.

I dont know about xp pro, but to my knowledge you cant remove the pop up ads for avira 9.0 in xp home. But i agree with Elvandil, one little click to remove a pop up ad is a small price to pay for a good free antivirus. if it bothers you that much you can set the update to download when you arent as busy on the computer. Or you can purchase the product and it will stop.

This is advice from a column on the Washington Post. EULA doesn't even come close to being a problem as you aren't sharing or using freeware in a business. Occiupt should research before saying something.
EULA details how the software can and cannot be used and any restrictions that the manufacturer imposes (e.g., most EULA’s of proprietary software prohibit the user from sharing the software with anyone else).

I'm not sure how true it is since I haven't tested it but I have heard that if you disable the ad then instead of seeing the ad you'll need to restart the computer after every update instead.
