I always say stay away from Norton and McAfee for many reasons. It's a pity that Norton, one of the first pioneers in computer security, didn't manage to live up to its initial reputation.

Dear lotuseclat79,
I had a raging battle with mcAfee six years ago, when they were doing these unasked for renewals. I cautioned them in clear terms that a court case is awaiting if they don't refund and unsubsribe me. It is a criminal offense for any org. to keep the details of the credit card. I informed my bank to urgently cancel the existing credit card and issue a new one. So much for McAfee and it's a shame on Norton!

As you always point out, visit the bank, withdraw the cash required and buy the product off the shelf, seems to be the best option!
Thank you for the post!

Both Symantec and McAfee see their market share slowly slipping away from them, so they do whatever is necessary keep their subscriptions up.

I became Symantec free a couple of years ago on all of my machines, and all my
customers machines. I wouldn't reinstall a Symantec product if they gave it to me.

That is certainly news to me, usually when the subscription runs out the updates simply stop coming. Symantec and McAffee are not the only people who are guiltly of auto-renew. If you ever subscribe to Consumer Reports web access, it renews itself automatically. Not to defend them, but we have been using Symantec for 10+ years on a 50 user network and have never had a problem. We survived Melissa, Conlflicker and a number of other attacks. It's up for renewal again, what is better for this size of a network?
