Avg security suite vs. Trend micro
Sorry to post on this board -went on 'general' didn't see this one devoted to 'security' issues...
Currently using T.M.2008 security suite...(also have 3 keys).up for renewal in august - $39.99 + 10.95 for CD (total of 49.95) - cannot download from site ...only have dial up
Dont remember if it was a confusing install but do know that it's working with all my systems (Win xp 'home' /sp2; outlook express/Earthlink/ no setting conflicts with Windows/modems, etc. and all other things i haven't a clue about ! LOL)...
But
There is a terrific 2-rebate deal for AVG 2009 security suite that would end up costing me only about $5.00 give/take !
But
64,000$ question is how difficult is it to install; is it difficult to configue; maybe i'd run into conflicts between the program and my computer ..(E-Machine which has been trouble-free).
AND
i've been reading various user-forums with these companies (zone alarm for one) and it seems people are having problems !
SO
Maybe i should just renew T.M. for 2009 since it's been 'working' and trouble-free'...
SO
i'm totally worried, confused and puzzled because i've read 'reviews' stating that Bit-Defender is #1 followed by Zone Alarm & Kapersky --T.M. is on the ''top'' list but showing 'ease of installation not as high as the first 3 ...ANY input will be so greatly appreciated !!!! Edythe

Trend micro and AVG are both not upto the task when it comes with dealing with viruses. You will see a lot of people out here having a problem with AVG. Installation issues, updating issues, removal issues (at times maybe due to existing malware) but thats not the reason always.
On the other hand trend micro fails at the basic task of stopping malware right at the gate making it easy for malware to penetrate the computer more easily.

Meanwhile, why not try something like
Kaspersky Internet security 2009
ESET Nod32 smart security suite
Bitdefender security software
Norton Internet security 2009.
These products are top notch, you can download a trial of any one of these and see for yourself

Cheers,
Prashant S

Hi - only have 'dialup' so i don't want to download anything - LOL - besides, to 'try' any of these wouldn't i have to 'uninstall' my T.M.? but i appreciate your suggestions ..recently read in PCWorld on line that NISS2009 is a good product as is KISS 2009 but read Bitdefinder has 'issues; basically what i need is an install that doesn't require much computer-savy... any ideas - LOL - many thanks again ! yes u would have to uninstall any antivirus/internet security suite before you install a new one. Bitdefender has a few issues, its a bit harsh on system resources. Nevertheless, its a very good security suite.

boy am i confused !!! did see on a comparrison site by C-NET i think - that B.D./Z-A + KASPERSKY are top 3 ...for ease of install but ZA has little 'support' ; you feel B.D. isn't the best ..so i may think about Norton ISS 2009 ..that rec'd PCWorld's top rating for I.S.S.'s... i can't see staying with Trend Micro for a $50 renewal charge ..it's o.k. -but what do i know ?!!!! LOL .. all i know it allows MS Outlook Express; i didn't have to change any dial-up 'settings' / my printer works with it and I.E.6 sp2 is working with it ...maybe i'm crazy not to bite the bullet - pay the renewal fee and just stay with T.M. ...but the $19.00 after 2 rebates for AVG ISS; or a discount on NAV 2009 ISS is sure tempting ! thanks again - Edythe Ps: when i do a 'scan' T.M. definitely slows my computer...
