Best anti-spyware / anti-adware for laptop
Hello! I was hoping some of you could help me out. I am on my mother's computer because she is complaining about pop ups. I have installed the latest updates for Windows Vista, but have read that persistent pop ups are caused by spyware and adware. Please give suggestions on which free protective programs are best to stop pop ups from bothering my mother forever.

I forgot to mention some details. The laptop is networked with a wireless card. My mother uses the laptop to message others via gmail. Somehow, she must have gotten some widespread spyware that is trapping her in pop up loops. She hates it because she doesn't know much about computers. I'll be waiting on the edge of my seat for some replies...
