That's the Windows Task Switcher. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt-Tab

First the Alt key is pressed and held down. While Alt is down, Tab may be pressed and released repeatedly, to cycle the cursor through a list of tasks.

I know that...
I know what alt+tab is used for! My question is what does that icon on the left belong to? I've never seen this before.

Oh, OK, I wasn't sure what you were asking.

What shows up on the task bar, they should match.

...
There is no visible program running that correlates to this icon. When the cursur highlights this icon no details are given. Does anybody have a clue what this is or has anybody seen this before?

I've seen it before, in another forum, but don't have a clue what it is. Neither did anyone else.

I had the same problem.
So, I just got my HP a few days ago and I realized I had the same problem. If you Task Switch to that program, then alt+f4 it, it'll close. After doing so, I looked at the task Manager and out that program is actually the HP Wireless assisstant. I think it's under the name HPWAMain.exe or something like that. =]
