Microsoft Defender problem
My daughters computer has been freezing up and we've been getting theblue error screen.
We have Windows Vista and use McAfee Security thru Cox.
I keep getting an error code 0xc80003fe
It wont allow me to check for new definitions....
I'm lost! I uninstalled McAfee and tried to reinstall it but now it wont allow me to because of this defender error!
God knows what sites she was on but any help would be appreciated!

Well I wouldn't start with blaming your daughter before you know the true problem, just to make sure. Then I would go about researching that error code and the solutions to it, many websites have this information, google it.

Did you use McAfee removal tool? See

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

Are you running Vista SP1 or SP2?
Freezing up issue? Anything recently installed - programs, browser addons that coincide with the freezing issue starting?

Dear rphily,
Welcome aboard! The error message may not be"related to Windows Defender", but to to the Microsoft updates themselves. I am providing a link which should solve the prob. :http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/.../msg02181.html

Best wishes!
