Dear ajax12a,
To add, MBAM has a paid version too, the difference being that the real-time protection is restricted to the paid version, as is the scheduler for updates and scans.

I use the free version, and it performs a scan to scan the computer for malware, and is effective at removing any that is found.

Dear ajax12a,
MBAM(free or paid) is one of the best anti Malware programs out there and since it's a stand-alone dedicated program, does the job very well. Go ahead and download!Best wishes.

A very good program to partner with it is SuperAntiSpyware. That is most of the bad crap covered.

Just note that it's not a replacement for an Anti-virus program,

It's instead used to complement an Anti-virus.

I'll also add, although I don't use it, it is often recommended for a free AV here.

Dear ajax12a,
Since we are on the subject of malware detection and removal, i would suggest you download and scan for malware with the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) which MS releases updates for on the second Tuesday of every month. Kindly download from :http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx .Best wishes.
