Avira nag Screen
Anyone know of a way to get rid of the Avira nag screen when it starts? There is a solution that works in XP, but I am looking for one using W2K.

If you're running NTFS, then you can take ownership of avnotify.exe and then remove all security permissions from the file; this has the same effect as denying access to the file with group security manager.

Click Start, and then click Run
In the Open box, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK
Expand User Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, and then expand System
In the right pane, double-click Don't run specified Windows applications
Click Enabled, and then click Show
Click Add, and then type the executable file name of the program (avnotify.exe) that you want to restrict users from running.
Click OK, click OK, and then click OK (NOTE: If domain-level policy settings are defined, they may override this local policy setting.)
Quit Group Policy Object Editor
Restart the computer.

midders, is this how? I don't have 2000.

Also, the horrible 'BLEEP' sound coming from the motherboard every time Avira has detected anything. Again, there is a solution for this:

Start up Avira, go into the configuration and use the 'Advanced' Layout. Then in the configuration window again, under 'scanner' click on 'scan' and 'further options'. In this screen uncheck the 'Acoustic Sound' to disable that sound.

Then go to the 'guard' section and following similar patterns uncheck the same function and voila! no more annoying Mobo Bleep!

Nor do I! I've used the group policy editor method for XP; I don't know if this also works for 2k, but before discovering it via goole I used the ownership method which has the advantage that it should work with any disk formatted in NTFS.
