Solved: Vista program permissions?
Hi lads.

is there anyway to turn off the way vista asks you permission to do the slightest little things like moving shortcuts, running programms etc?

it just annoys me so much that i want rid of it, and to hell with the security. vista to me looks more like a virus than most things it proclaims to protect against.

any way to shut this thing off?

cheers.

Yeah, go back to XP!

Seriously, disable UAC.

One time I went to a web site and suddenly up popped the UAC prompt. Now I thought - why is this web site asking for admin privileges on my PC ? Of course I canceled. Now if I were on an XP system, there is no UAC prompt and the web site would have done whatever it wished, installed spyware, backdoors, malware, keyloggers etc. The security in Vista is for your own good. ( you woulda expected that comming, since you're posting in a security forum )

I find that initially, during the setup phase, you'll encounter a lot of UAC prompts. But after you have finished setting up stuff, you will not encounter the UAC as much during daily use.

That's why we have security software installed on our computers, either using XP or Vista...

Yes, Phantom, I of course have security software. I was just trying to give some good reasons for having the UAC on. I was kind of surprised that you gave him the answer straight away. You're technically strong, and I think you know why MS came up with this UAC idea. When a user comes blabbering about 'stupid' security, don't you think we should at least talk some sense into them ?

Hi SdiKevin,

No they didn't get rid of it, but UAC can be silenced to various levels, and turned off altogether. By default, Windows 7 doesnt prompt you if you directly initiated an action I think. So you will get to see less of the UAC.
