Prevent a self-executing from starting
How can I prevent a self-executing USB (like a SD Card) from automatically starting? I think have a GenericDX virus on one of my cards. Reading TGS forums has solved the GenericDX problem on the HD's of three of my computers but I am concered about my cards.

Usually I wait for the self-executing device/program/file to start and then click cancel. I saw a link in Forums but can't find it now.

As always,
Thanks in advance for any help members can provide.

Hi!

Which OS? XP?Home/Pro?...

In XP (pro) for instance you can edit the group policies to disable autoruns (cd's, usb...).

Two work computers are XP Pro. I'll check the XP Po group policies on Monday at work.
A third home computer is XP 3rd edition.

Thank you for the information.

Start>Run... gpedit.msc

Administrative Templates>System>double click Turn Off Autoplay, select enabled/on all drives.

On the other computer you'll probably need to change some settings in the registry, but it can be done as well. Will get back to you on that.

Okay. I'll let you know how it goes at work with XP Pro.

If you need logs or registry settings from my XP Home, let me know.

Thanks.
