Unable to open antivirus website
I was in the process of updating my antivirus software. I switched from Norton to McAfee. While downloading, McAfee required that I uninstall all Norton applications. This action required me to restart my computer. Then, when I tried to start the McAfee download again, the main install screen would open for a split second, then close itself. I tried several times to open the software through My Computer, with the same results each time. I then tried to go to McAfee's website for support, but the internet browser closed itself when I typed "mcafee.com" and enter. I can view other websites (this one, for example) but not mcafee's.

So, I am currently without any type of virus protection whatsoever, as I have successfully deleted Norton, but cannot install McAfee. Please help.

Thanks.
- Technotard

P.S. I also called McAfee for support - they confirmed that I have a virus and offered to connect me to a "virus removal specialist" who would walk me through repairs for only $89.95.

Did you use the Norton Removal Tool to remove Norton? It's important to delete all traces of Norton before installing a new security software.

Please start your own thread as it becomes confusing to have to help more than one member in the same thread.

Thank you for understanding

Try an online antivirus scanner, like TrendMicro's Housecall. I think it is free. You need to go there an install an activeX and then it will scan and remove viruses.

Dear TechnoRetard,
Please follow what phantom010 has suggested and another simple way of knowing whether you have removed all traces of Norton from your PC is to "unhide" the files and folders and simply type "Norton" in the search box. This will reveal any remnants of Norton then you can delete them.Your ability to open all websites except McAfee's may be related to an incomplete uninstall of Norton!

Try lunarlander's advise to run an on-line virus scanner!http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Hello there mjsoft,
Listen to phantom010's advise and start your own thread!Phantom was very courteous in his advise and i am telling the truth! Before you get a rude rub off from some one else, run and cleverly comeback and post a question" Me,My PC and My websites-no open sesame working! Help please!" (something on those lines!). That will get us involved and focussed on your specific problem!what say?

Alright I made sure that I deleted all traces of Norton.

The site, http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ would not work for me. The computer froze every time it would start running.

I found out that I have 11 threats and 171 infections on my computer but is there a way that I can get rid of that without paying anything?

Every time I try to go to www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/, the internet shuts down.

McAfee still won't work either..

You should start a new thread in the Malware Removal forum.

Dear TechnoRetard,
Please follow phantom's advise. McAfee help costing you 87$! It looks like a rip-off to me! Now you/we understand the value of this site and the malware removal folks are akin to real action heroes! Hang on a bit, because the experts have their hands full and they are volunteers!
