First of all, if you have uninstalled Norton, make sure it has been removed properly to eradicate all traces of Norton by using the Norton Removal Tool. Believe me, Norton is like a parasite if not uninstalled properly. It will conflict with a lot of applications.

As for Malware Protection, you are supposed to have some if you've installed Avast. Use the Norton Removal Tool because it's possible that Norton is interfering with Avast's proper installation and functioning, thus triggering Vista's warning.

You may also want to install the free versions of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SuperAntiSpyware and SpywareBlaster. They are among the best anti-spyware programs out there.

As for your firewall, if you don't already have one with Avast, you may turn on the Windows Vista firewall or install Comodo's firewall.

Dear fatboyfat,
Phantom010's words, quote" Believe me, Norton is like a parasite if not uninstalled properly. It will conflict with a lot of applications."Unquote.Spot on! Kaspersky is also similar in it's refusal to completely uninstall! It conflicts are somewhat similar to Norton, in that the recent updated version of MBAM was considered by Kas, as a "generic Trojan".

You can try Online Armor as advised or the PC Tools Firewall Plus (free) from :http://www.pctools.com/firewall/ . I have no personal experience with the above mentioned firewalls!

Can anybody chip in and share their experience with the ZoneAlarm free firewall? Best wishes.

Here's another link for the removal tool http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039
Since I think that's only for 98/ME users like it says.

Also I agree with Online Armor, nice program, they just released a new version.
If you download that firewall be sure to take advantage of the runsafer feature. http://tallemu.com/webhelp3/KF-RunSafer.html

I have all my internet facing programs (browser, email client, etc.) set to runsafer.

Yes it's clear,
Though I think I remember another thread where the user was confused where the download link was on Major Geeks, Not sure why but some people seem to have trouble finding the download links on Major Geeks.
