Ie 8
Why does Microsoft consider IE 8 to be a critical update?

It's been out for several months now, and they want you to be updated.
I've been using it since the spring and have not had any major problems.

Believe me, it's not critical to install it. Stay away!!!

Dear stephen47,
It was an option, when i decided to download IE8 way back in late March'09! Now it's become "critical"! I liked IE7 when i was using IE as a browser of preference. Since then, i have moved away and now am hooked to a Firefox 3.5 with "69 security holes" rather than a IE8 with 60 "security holes"! At least Mozilla were frank enough to admit that fact.

Correct me if i am wrong when i state that there were 25 million downloads of FF3.5 all over the world since the official release! That's a paradigm shift in browser preference and MS should wake up to the fact that they are getting the whole thing wrong, somewhere down the line!

Remember the FF patch which came from MS?

Dear lunarlander,
The security policy of MS is "seriously" unavailable for scrutiny and the only way mere mortals get to know is via patches, updates and now"they have gone the whole hog and categorized IE8 itself as a critical update". Probably lotuseclat79 may be able to answer your query! The difference between MS and Mozilla is Microsoft has this "holier than thou" attitude and Mozilla, were in a rush to release FF3.5( Heaven knows why they were rushing) and acknowledged that the 3.5 has holes and will greet us all with a 3.5.1 release! Securing our browser using our ingenuity, seems to be the order of the day, as no single browser is fool-proof!

Aha! FF has come out with a security fix 3.5.1! Stanley has just come out with the post!

PS: It's a bruising browser war out there!

Dear kitkin15,
Personal experience matters, and i respect yours! Did you try Firefox, at anytime? (3.5.2, being the latest stable version). I have IE8, and the transition from IE7 was smooth and there are no problems to date, though i mostly use it for MS updates! Yesterday, MS released a lot of critical updates, did you get them?

Yeah, there were 10+ updates on Wednesday, many of them being security updates for XP.
