Unhappy situation!!!
I just had a really bad virus removed from my computer, after I brought it home and hooked it back up, I can't get onto the net. I looked in network connections and it says LOCAL AREA CONNECTION: CONNECTED, FIREWALLED So does that mean my firewall isn't allowing me to get online? and how do I fix this. Have been without my computer since last Friday and am going nuts here

No, that does not mean that your firewall is stopping you. That is a normal status message that tells you that the firewall is active, which is normal.

Do you have XP? Check your network properties, TCP/IP properties. Is it the same as before?

Dear misscomputerdumb,
You have XP as i can see in the comp. specifications you provided. The answer is courtesy"yahoo answers" and i take no credit, except intelligent searching!

Here it goes, read the steps carefully and follow them. Ideally, you can take a print-out which makes life easy, isn't it?

Hi there. Before knowing what operating system version you're using (including service pack), I'll have to assume which is never a good thing. Nevertheless, it sounds as if you or someone with access to your computer has inadvertently seized internet connectivity as a result of a popup from either a) your built-in windows firewall notification system or b) an installed software firewall such as ZoneAlarm notified you some sort of internet activity was being requested and did you want to deny or allow access. To test this, first disable the Windows Firewall located within your Control Panel (assuming you're running Windows XP). Afterwards, attempt to surf the internet. If you can't, open a command prompt and type ipconfig /release all and hit Enter. Once Windows tells you it successfully completed the operation, type ipconfig /renew all and hit Enter. If successful, you should now see the results of this command with IP address information. Sometimes this process takes a while and that's normal. If you see an IP address that doesn't start with 169. then try and surf. Open a web browser and see if you can hit Google.com. If you still can't, mouse over the various programs in your system tray (next to your clock at lower right) and verify that none of these programs have any kind of network restriction capabilities. If they do, disable them until you figure out what it did or didn't do to prevent internet access to/from your machine"

The one thing i wanted to point out is ,did you notice that there should be a space between ipconfig and the slash(/) --ipconfig /

Best wishes.
