ZoneAlarm / verisign etc. questions
Hi, all. Here's the situation:

Because I'd received an error msg "Validation failed for C/windows/system32/vsinit.dll,
..so I googled and followed the steps listed on the zonelabs forums.

When I reached STEP-2 for fixing root certificates:
getca.verisign.com

the directions turned out to be different than the reality.. so that I'm not absolutely sure whether my root certificates were fixed. I assume that Verisign certificate automatically has become installed.

Is there any way I can find out whether my root certificate is fixed?

NEXT Q:

The zonelab forums stated as STEP-3 to select the appropriate download link below to download ZoneAlarm.
However, I'd already had "zlsSetup_61_737_000_en.exe" installed in My Download Files.

But I went ahead anyway and chose the first download link listed in zonelab forums, resulting in:
zaSetup_en.exe

So.. I now have the following 2 in My Download Files:
zlsSetup_61_737_000_en.exe
zaSetup_en.exe

I have no idea which setup file to click, in order to safely get ZoneAlarm back up & running. Frankly, I forget whether my ZA version had included AV, Security, or Anti-Spyware. All I know is that I had the free version.

Thanks.

Hi jelleym,
Nice to see you back! What product did you first download for free--ZA Internet SS (OR ZA firewall) ? These security suites are usually free for one month( I may be wrongo), then you'll be prompted to buy!

Verisign usually comes into the picture, when you are submitting credit card details, isn't it?

If you follow what they tell you to do here than it will be fixed. http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/...ssage.id=74257 Just delete the programs that are in your downloads file and do what they say.

I believe I'd installed the free version of ZoneAlarm - just their firewall - but not absolutely sure. Because if they didn't clearly label which was which, I just might have installed a non-free app if it was among their downloads. I don't remember.

I do know that every time I'd use my computer I'd keep getting these annoying prompts from ZA, but always clicked "Ask Me Later" and left it at that.

It's only today that the Validation Failed message cropped up, and ZA's icon failed to display.

Stormfish, the link you gave is exactly what I was referring to above (IE: when I referred to the zonelabs forum). And their steps aren't completely accurate or clear, which is why I asked my above questions.

Dear jelleym,
Just go ahead and install" zaSetup_en.exe"( not a link) It is a stand-alone free firewall download. If you encounter any obstacles refer to these links below, may prove helpful! Best wishes! so, you liked ZA firewall! http://cleansofts.org/download/zonealarm-free.html

OK, perfume, here's the latest:

when I clicked zaSetup_en.exe (from my download files area)
...it resulted in another error message.

So I googled for that error message, and came upon another zonelabs-forum discussion where someone asked about that.

The response gave a link to download which (after several hours download) resulted in:
zlsSetup_70_483_000_en.exe

Clicking that resulted in the following loop (which CTL/ALT/DEL did not help - rather only the Power-Off switch.

Ordinal 55 could not be located in dynamic library VSDATA.DLL
THEN: Clicked "OK"
THEN: "true vector encountered problem..."

THEN:
Ordinal 55 could not be located in dynamic library VSDATA.DLL
THEN: Clicked "OK"
THEN: "true vector encountered problem..."

...and on & on.

I now have ZoneAlarm on my Task Bar - but I probably still have that true vector problem and/or Ordinal 55 problem.

Dear jelleym,
From what i've seen in the ZA forums, even your installation seems incomplete/faulty. Kindly read this link and see if it solves the prob. I hope you have turned off the default Windows firewall ,before the ZA download!Best wishes.http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs...ssage.id=71884

I clicked the link you gave, but then when I clicked the link given by SlyFox:

http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs...ssage.id=71885

it stated:

BTW, the same ZA messages just happened to me on my laptop as well, where I had the same ZoneAlarm app. loaded. Except that on my laptop, a Red X developed on the internet connection icon (LAN unplugged or disconnected). And though my dialup connects me to the Net, yet when I try accessing any websites, it doesn't function.

I'm thinking maybe with Kubuntu OS i'd have less problems? What sort of AV's & Firewalls do most Kubuntu users use - i wonder.
