Have many viruses and cpu is "threatened"
Hello,

On Thursay, 7/16/09, I got an error message that my cpu was loaded with over 200 viruses, including the trojan horse virus. I tried to download some program to erase the viruses but couldn't find the program afterward. I'm really not computer literate, so when things are downloaded, I would have a better chance of finding a needle in a haystack. Anyway, I need help in cleaning up my cpu without having to spend anymore money. The amount of money I've already spent I could have bought a new cpu; which will be my next step if this doesn't work. My cpu is not any name brand cpu; meaning it is not an HP or Gateway or anything like that. It was bought from a mom/pop shop 5 years ago, brand new of course. I have Windows XP.

My main question is how can I get rid of all these viruses and "threats"? I am unable to access certain things on the internet anymore. To give examples: trying to watch video stories on CNN.com or MSNBC.com, my internet freezes up and shuts down; trying to browse through dvdreview.com, my internet freezes up and shuts down. Up until about 5 months ago, these were things I was able to do without any problem whatsoever. I am CONSTANTLY getting "out of memory, line ??" error messages. I am CONSTANTLY getting "your computer is low on memory" error messages, which it is not. There is PLENTY of memory on this cpu. I cannot use mapquest or yahoo maps anymore; my internet freezes up and shuts down or I got the aforementioned memory error messages.

I would appreciate any help to get this problem resolved.

CPU is a processor just to give you a heads up, you should say computer or PC I guess. SUPERAntiSyware Free Edition (http://www.superantispyware.com/) is pretty good, watch for those rogue anti virus softwares as well, because you might just keep on throwing your money away at nothing!

Chances are that at least one of the messages you are getting about "threats" is itself from an infection that is trying to get you to spend money.

Many infections will block anti-virus programs from working so that they can't be used to clean a machine.

As a first step, you might go to the Malware forum and read the stickies there. If you post a log, an expert will help you when your turn comes.

The General Security forum is only for general questions regarding security software and things of that nature but not for actually removing malware as we have qualified helpers who are the only members who are authorized to assist with those matters. You can easily identify them as they have either a gold or blue shield beside their usernames. Please refer to this excerpt from the rules:

http://www.techguy.org/rules.html

[quote]Log Analysis/Malware Removal - In order to ensure that advice given to users is consistent and of the highest quality, those who wish to assist with security related matters must first graduate from one of the malware boot camp training universities or be approved by the administration as already being qualified. Those authorized to help with malware issues have a gold shield next to their name and authorized malware removal trainees have a blue shield next to their names. If you'd like to participate in a training program, please contact a Moderator or see this article.

I'm going to close this thread and ask you to repost in the Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs forum for the proper assistance.
