Solved: Facebook
Some other members of my family have really gotten into Facebook and are trying to get me to join. I'm not a fan of that sort of thing, but my wife seems interested. She's "mentioned" it a couple of times. You married guys out there know what THAT means.

So, my question relates to what I may be opening my computer to if I go on the site. Are there any known problems such as Adware, Spyware, other Malware, SPAM mailing lists etc., etc.????

Those sites are very risky. Besides the fact that many profiles are infected, one of the prevalent infections running rampant is Koobface.

I avoid all of those sites like the plague.

I have a family member who's been on Facebook for several months, and hasn't had any problems with the security of the computer on it. A lot of it depends on what exactly you visit on there, videos etc.

Thanks loads, Cookiegal... That is precisely why I posted the question in the first place. I'm aware sites of that sort are usually loaded with that kind of stuff and was very hesitant to sign up until I either got some reassurance the site was OK or, as you did, provide condemning information. You have answered my question quite well. I've always been able to depend on the folks on TSG to provide straight and relevant info on just about any question.
