Are the temp files older than 24hrs.
See Options - advanced in CCleaner.

Also check to see if Applications - Multimedia files are checked for delete.

Ccleaner deletes files in C:\WINDOWS\Temp that are older than 48 hrs.

But it doesn't clean C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp for any of the users.

So what I do is add that folder in the Options > Include section.

Use Disk Cleanup. It's safer because it won't delete files that may still be needed. If you are that desperate for space, you should get a new drive before you end up losing some important project by deleting all those files.

Looks like you had a Windows update during the last session.

There is no possible way that temp files could slow down a computer.

I will answer the queries in the order posted!

Dear casper,---No, there is no slowdown in the system speed!

Dear KLR,---They must have been older than 24 hours, because i ticked on" delete temp files older than 48 hours"! I would like to know why Cc gave that option? Yes, the multimedia files are enabled for deletion.

Dear Stanley,---That's a great tip! I've added the" C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp" folder. As Elvandil points out below, IS IT SAFE TO REMOVE ALL TEMP FILES?

Dear Elvandil,--- Thanks for your post. I did a disk clean and all temp files were cleared. Actually, i should have updated my comp. specs. Now i have a one TB Internal HDD(Seagate) with 250 GB alloted for the C: Primary drive, so no probs. regarding space constraints.

In Ccleaner,>Options>Settings>Secure Deletion>Two Options are provided. A) Normal File Deletion(Faster) and B) Secure file Deletion(Slower).

I have chosen, since the beginning, option A. Under Option B, there is a drop down menu, which provides FOUR options, the last one being the Gutmann option (35 Passes)! Thought i would post this link which i read and deemed useful about the relevance of option B (secure Deletion(slower)). Is it time for Cc to remove the Gutmann process which Gutmann himself ack. as "pointless"? Link : http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=20068 Thanks!

Just wanted to add that i used the "disk cleaner" function in Win.Utilities full version, which i have, to clean up the temp files! Kindly view the folder before and the folder after Disk Clean!

Well if that is the point why deleting them? you might end up messing your OS if you forcedly deleted them.

Dear casper0191,
The point to be debated is the ability of Ccleaner (to what extent it can) to delete the temp files! That's why Cc has provided us options, like normal deletion and secure deletion.

I am now quoting from Linda's computer stop " On rare occasion, I get emails from people telling me that they have programs that NEED their tmp and chk files in order for the program to find previously stored information. First off, I have never seen this in my own experiences with deleting temp files from thousands of machines. And, secondly, I would question the intelligence of any program that stores critical information in tmp or chk files, since these file types are universally known for their temporary nature and many people delete them". Unquote.

I must thank casper for widening the horizons of my little know. about temp files, because i went to bing.com ( hey,it's good!) and typed"can all temp files be deleted?" and the first in the list was this link :

Dear casper0191,
If any of my posts in this thread have slighted you in the least, i apologize and kindly accept them! It is a truth that your queries have REALLY HELPED ME UNDERSTAND THE HIDDEN FACTS ABOUT .TEMP FILES!The one thing i have really learned here is (in this site) unless i am ready to learn and not think that i am superior in knowledge than some others, i will go away with empty hands! I have also learned how to behave in a public forum (try to understand the mentality of a teenage brat who has a disease)and i have cookiegal to thank for that!

I want your active participation and today while browsing with bing, i have also come to know a point or two about "page files"! Typing bing.com is far easier than Google.com or the upcoming caffeine.com (The brand new Avatar of Google search engine)
! I listen to classic Rock songs while i am on this site and Winamp (for audio--ten band equalizer for free) and VLC player for music Videos! No hard feelings please!

For those who want "breaking news", Mozilla has released the Firefox 3.6 Alpha 1 for testing by the big guys and we have quite a few of them in the site!
