Can't download Windows updates
I'm running a Dell Dimension 4100 with XP service pack II.

Recently, I noticed that I can no longer download Windows Updates. The Windows Security Center sends me messages that new updates are available but when I click on the Icon, nothing happens. When I go to Microsoft's site to manually download the updates, I can't get them.

I assume I have to restore something in Windows that isn't working properly but don't know what to do.

Thanks for any feedback,

Regards,

Mark

Can't download Windows Updates
This is strange. I went to the link you provided and got this:

Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue:

Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem

Dear Blindy8,
I have observed that installing XP Service Pack 3 will clear the way for future updates to come in smoothly and get installed! Though XP pack 3 is not very great,it can act as a bottleneck! Kindly visit this link and try downloading the pack 3! Best wishes. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

blindy8:

Go here and download the full 316 MB SP3 upgrade, then burn it off to a CD-R. You can then install it in that computer and any other computer that needs it from the CD-R.

Make sure to turn off or disable your antivirus program before you start the upgrade.
