I am not able to download
Beware...I am pretty computer illiterate. I recently had some people at Linksys hack into my computer because they were having trouble hooking up my router. They tried to uninstall my AVG 8.5 Free virus protection. But it looks like they only took out bits and pieces of it or something. I don't know if that is what happened but now I am NOT ABLE TO UNINSTALL THE REST OF IT...and MY COMPUTER IS NOT DOWNLOADING PROPERLY. The download pop up appears and I click Run and/or Save and neither one works ; ( Any help would be much appreciated.

To properly remove AVG you need the AVG Remover.

I ditto that! The alternative would be to install "Revo uninstaller" and remove the AVG completely from the PC! Website : http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html

Dear phantom010,
I am getting to like bing as it's easy to type and the results are very good! Just wanted to share this info' with you!

Dear skyfox,
Glad to be of help. This uninstaller really goes deep down and plucks out the remotest vestige of the software you wish to remove and that includes the registry. Please select the level 4 (or the last button) and be careful with the registry bit. I have never had probs. with removing the regitry entries till date! Good luck!

Dear Sawsan,
Sure you don't want to open a new thread? This thread is on a different topic! Anyway, did you open any e-mail attachments just before this happened? E-mail attachments are notorious for malware entry! Run an Online Anti-virus scan, for ex. Trend Micro's Housecall. Link http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ . If Malware is found, kindly click on "report" at the right bottom corner of the reply box and request the moderator to move your post to the Malware and HJT forum!

PS: fighting4focus may get angry at you, Sawsan!

Do you have the virus symptoms (slower computer than usual, blue background etc.)? Viruses might cause problems with downloading and uninstalling, so your compute cannot be fixed. You might have to download a security program with a disc, or manually remove the virus (for advanced users only.)

By the way, it's probably not your connection's fault.

Dear fighting4focus,
Did you uninstall AVG using the tool, phantom suggested?

Are you the Administrator of your computer? Point your mouse cursor over the "start" button at the lower left hand side and RIGHT-CLICK". If you can see "open all users" and "explore all users", then you are the Admin. Please completely un-install AVG! Then try downloading to the DESKTOP, sometimes it works with Vista! Read these suggestions offered in this article: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-genera...-internet.html Best wishes.
