I cannot run Malwarebytes
I cannot run Malwarebytes.

When I try to run Malwarebytes program from Start Programs I get a destination component message as in the 1st screenshot and whether I said OK, CANCEL or closed the box I got the 2nd screenshot message and again got the same messages whether I said OK or closed the box.

I then tried to re-install Malwarebytes but got these messages again during set up.

It cannot find where you have installed it to. Is it on another computer, and you are trying to open it via LAN?

Go direct to your C drive, then Program Files and check for it that way too. I have to dig for about a 1/3 of my programs that way. If it's not there I'd have to agree with Bondy unless you have another drive destination you dropped it in. If it's not there you may need to drop your virusware's firewall to load.

I would uninstall MBAM completely from your "Add or Remove programs" in the Control Panel.

Then, use the MBAM Clean-up Utility (attached) to remove all traces of the program.

Then, reinstall the latest version from here. Be careful and watch for the correct download destination. Save it in a folder where you're used to save downloads. Then, run the install from there.

Thanks.

I have in the meantime heard from Malwarebytes. I have never had any trouble with Malwarebytes in years (I love it) and they say it is nothing to do with them but the problem is the missing/corrupted Destinations.msi file in my screenshot above and can happen when any program is run.

Can anyone help with this please?

Download and run (if you can) the free ATF Cleaner.

Put a check mark on Select All.

Then, click on Empty Selected.

Then, try your programs again.

Thanks Phantom 010 but you know I am not very keen on running cleaners and I thought I should be trying to repair/replace the missing/corrupt Destinations.msi file ?

It's not a registry cleaner. It's perfectly safe and simply performs tasks you could do manually. It's faster and easier. It mainly empties your computer cache, like temporary files.

Thanks Phantom010.

I usually clean all those things with the Accessories - Clean up facility. It works perfectly fine and I do it most days including today.

Shouldn't I be trying to repair/replace the missing/corrupt Destinations.msi file ?

Did you recently, or in the past, run a registry cleaner?

Download and run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

It comes with a utility that you can use to create a "destination.msi file".

Thanks Phantom010.

It's taking a lot of work but becoming clear what probably happened.

The destination.msi file which has the destination component in it mentioned in my screenshots above is in the software for my HP C6380 All in One printer which works fine (it is in Set-up). I have 3 HP printers (all pains) and I may, although I don't remember, inadvertently uninstalled a shared component.

I found a fix for this by inputting the software original CD, rightclicking on the Destinations folder and there is a repair facility. I thought I was home and dry but it said it could not repair it as there is no printer connected although my printer is switched on and working.

Will the Windows Installer routine in your last post fix this?

If a repair didn't work, you might try uninstalling the printers using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

This looks a bit scary for me, particularly the bit about losing programs and having to re-install them.

Is it possible just to do the create the "destination.msi file " bit you mentioned and please would you tell me how to do that?
