 | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | | | Solved: Someone knowledgeable please answer this! To be quite frank: I was prompted to join this forum after I realized I was logged into my Google AdWords account while surfing for rather "questionable" web material. I was using my personal laptop to access my Google Adwords account to catch up on a little work while at home. When I first signed up for Adwords, I provided my work email address. So, my question is this: Will my employer see the websites I have been visiting and what I have been "googl'ing" if I was still logged into my work's Google Adwords account from my personal computer?
Thanks! | | Member with 48 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2009 Experience: Advanced | | There is no way anyone can determine what you are personally searching for with google adwords. You will be fine. | | Senior Member with 449 posts. | | Join Date: May 2008 Location: Ohio USA Experience: Advanced | | Quote:

Thanks! | Is the google adwords account running through a work server?
If so, yes.
Not only that, but I believe you need to log onto your account to access the account, correct? In that case, of course your employer is going to see what you are doing.
Just remember; it's not your network. We (network admins) see everything that goes across. I don't know about your company, but someone accessing something from the outside that we can easily get reports on is going to raise some eyebrows.
thanks,
v

He was not at work so his work will not see anything he is doing. Google Adwords is not hosted on any company's servers. It is hosted by Google and there is no way for his company to know anything about his personal surfing habits at home. Quote:

Again, if his network team is lax enough not to monitor their account, he's cool.

But, some IT guys have directives coming from strict company policies...
Besides, you did do it at home, not at the office while supposedly working. This can easily be verified. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

#10 | Opps sorry for butchering your name Valis.
Whether or not a network admin is monitoring a google adwords account does not matter. The two issues are unrelated.
Here's an example: Just because you are logged into the Tech Support Guy forum does not mean that I or anyone else knows what other sites you are visiting.
Now on the other hand, if he was at work or proxing through the work network then, they would be able to potentially know what he was doing. | | Community Moderator with 32,949 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Texas Experience: cp/m --> |

#11 | well, they aren't going through a proxy. So chances are they are safe.
That being said, I will flat out guarantee that a report is generated as to who accessed that app and when; if they run a tight network, they'll include an IP addy. Remember, he logged on to his WORK account, not his personal one.
Now, whether or not that report is requested and read is another thing entirely.
But I guarantee you a log is generated anytime that account is accessed.

Bit more maintenance, but sweet jesus, it makes management so much easier.
Work is work. I've had veeps that have reported sluggishness, and I've found limewire on their rigs. They gotta know this is MY network, and if it gets compromised, it's my butt in the sling, not theirs. And it's a company laptop that had that crapware on it to top it off.
Oh well, what can you do. With a network this size, and 4 people managing it from one location, it can make for a LOT of traveling.
