I have been trying to fix my parent's computer. They had me come over because their internet wasn't working. As I was looking into it, I believe they have a Malware issue.

They run Windows XP with IE 8. They also have Norton Anti-Virus

When I ran the diagnostics tool for IE, I received this message: “Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall setting on this computer. Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80). HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21).” (They are connected via a wireless modem, but I tried the computer with a connected cable and the modem is not the issue)

I turned off the Windows Firewall. When I opened up Norton to turn off the firewall I wasn't able to mess with the firewall settings for Norton. My Dad told me that Norton did not look the same as it did before the internet connection failed.

I tried to run a previous version of Ad-Aware and it said there wasn't a single issue. I find this hard to believe because Ad-Aware hadn't been run in over 6 months. I tried to turn of Norton and some other applications with the Task Manager and thought there were some suspicious programs running. Particularly, there were 2 instances of csrss.exe. I did a file search on the computer and found a csrss file with a .pf at the end of it. I didn't want to go any further and figured you guys might be able to help with a posing of my parent's Hijack This Log.

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

That's a file found in the Prefetch folder > C:\Windows\Prefetch

Each time you turn on your computer, Windows keeps track of the way your computer starts and which programs you commonly open. Windows saves this information as a number of small files in the prefetch folder. The next time you turn on your computer, Windows refers to these files to help speed the start process.

The prefetch folder is a subfolder of the Windows system folder. The prefetch folder is self-maintaining, and there's no need to delete it or empty its contents. If you empty the folder, Windows and your programs will take longer to open the next time you turn on your computer.

You should update all your security programs and have them scan your computer.

I would replace Ad-Aware with the free versions of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware.

One other thing, do not run two firewalls (Windows Firewall and Norton's firewall) at the same time. They will only conflict.

The two detected items are always displayed by MBAM whenever you disable a security feature in the registry, like an antivirus or firewall. So, it's not actually showing malware.

As for the virtual memory and page file, read this to understand a bit more what it's about.

Please post your complete computer specs, especially your amount of RAM.

I can't even XP to fully load now. After I click on a profile it says "Loading your personal settings..." I've let it go as long as 25 minutes before I just restarted the computer. I can't seem to open up Windows Safe Mode either.

My Dad also told me that last time he started the computer, that Norton popped up with an error message.

It said, "Unable to starte ccEmailProxy"

The Dell Dimension 3000 desktop supports up to 2048 MB of RAM, so you might consider adding another 512 MB.

Go here and click the green icon to download Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.16.

Just download it and save it for now and don't install it yet.

Go into Add Or Remove Programs and uninstall ALL current versions of java currently listed there.

After they're all uninstalled, go into the C:\Program Files\Java folder and delete all leftover folders.

Restart the computer.

Install version 1.6.0.16.
