advice on what to do in the meantime
Dear guys?

I worry that I may have accidently picked up a virus, but I'm not sure, because Kapersky can't pick up anything except for Adobe vulnerabilities (which I can never clear for some reason!)... but I was looking up a health issue, and I accidently got to a porn site,I think, except it was all worded in research, but the images did not look research.

And I'm not sure if I picked up a virus, but it seems like things beep more on my screen and it just closed the IE because of some addon or something...

So... I just need to know, what should I avoid doing if there is one onn my computer? Should I avoid things with passwords? Or should I change my passwords from another computer?

I'm not sure if I have one, but I am worried. I wish I hadn't found that site.

thanhkim:

Do the following in the order listed:

Go here and click the green icon to download HijackThis 2.0.2.

Go here and click the green icon to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.40.

Close all open windows, then install HijackThis. Make sure to install it in its default location: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.

Run a scan with it - which will take 30 seconds or less.

When the scan is finished, save the resulting log in Notepad.

Return here, then copy-and-paste the entire log here.

Just download and save Malwarebytes for now. Don't install it yet until we see your HijackThis log.

Here it is. It is possible there isn't a virus, but the one thing different when I ran Kaspersky was that there were a load more Adobe problems than I ever had before. But, I uninstalled Adobe Reader thinking maybe it would get rid of the problems which didn't. But here it is. I hope there isn't a virus, but I am worried because of that site. It definitely was porn.

There was no need to uninstall Adobe Reader. You need it anyway for reading files and manuals on-line that are in PDF format.

Assuming that you followed my previous instructions, go ahead and install Malwarebytes. Make sure to get it up-to-date with the latest definition files during the install process. After it's installed, run a "quick scan" with it. Leave your computer alone while it's scanning. After the scan is finished, select and allow it to fix EVERYTHING it finds. Restart your computer if prompted to. Return here to your thread, then post a copy of the scan log here.

You ran a "quick scan" with Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything?

Where's the scan log that I requested?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Click Start - Run, type in NETSH WINSOCK RESET (exactly as you see it here and with a space between each word) and then click OK.

A small command window will appear for a few seconds and then will disappear. After it disappears, restart your computer.

Start HijackThis and run a scan with it, then post that new log here.

I am sorry. I forgot to get the quickscan. Here it is. I will wait for a response from you before I do the Start-Run instructions, as I'm not sure if you wanted the quick scan log first. Sorry, I'm a dunce with computers here.

Thanks for the Malwarebytes log. It's clean.

Go ahead and follow my previous instructions. And don't forget to post a new HijackThis log afterwards.

Go here and click the green icon to download SUPERAntiSpyware 4.28.0.1010.

Close all open windows, then install it. Make sure to allow it to check for and install the latest definition files.

After it's installed and updated, run a "quick scan" with it. Don't do anything with your computer while it's scanning.

After the scan is finished, make sure there's a checkmark in the entire list. Allow the entire list to be fixed, then restart your computer if prompted to.

In the SUPERAntiSpyware main window, click Preferences - Statistics/Logs. Obtain a copy of the scan log, then post it here.

Is that Sony VAIO a desktop or a laptop, and is it using a wired or a wireless connection?
