Solved: Protection
Ive heard/read a lot about malwarebytes so I followed the link and installed it kasperskey antivirus detected what it called "a driver is being installed in a hidden way" or words to that effect and offered to quartine abort installation etc. on the basis that kaspersky was "only doing its job" I took it on trust and went ahead and installed it and all is well on first scan it found "adware.mywebsearch" which none of my current anti-malware applications had detected will I get any conflicts by having multiple anti-malware applications installed I have one full anti-virus (paid for kaspersky 2009 anti virus) plus spybot search & destroy ad-aware and now malwarebytes plus all the Microsoft stuff - vista firewall windows defender and Microsoft malicious removal tool

You only need Kaspersky in real-time protection, and perhaps one anti-spyware like MBAM or SAS. But, IMO, the anti-spyware free versions without real-time protection are sufficient. Simply run periodic scans.

As for the other stuff you have, you can get rid of it.

Hi,
In Vista I use Comodo and Avast but as an additional layer I use Sandboxie for all my surfing. This site explains it better than I can:
http://www.sandboxie.com/

Hope it's of interest. I've had no probs with it in XP or Vista.
