Mourning the loss of our friend, WhitPhil.

Go for Registry Mechanic or Registry Booster.
If you are looking at free option, then CCleaner

Do not use any registry cleaner, booster, optimizer.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Post a HijackThis log here so we can see what's installed and running in the background and if any obvious infection is present.

Go here and click the green icon to download HijackThis 2.0.2.

Close all open windows, then install it in its default location: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.

Run a scan with it - which will take 30 seconds or less.

Save the resulting log in Notepad.

Return here to your thread and then copy-and-paste the entire log here.

Do a HijackThis scan, then put a checkmark in:

R3 - URLSearchHook: SearchHelper Class - {91C18ED5-5E1C-4AE5-A148-A861DE8C8E16} - C:\Program Files\SGPSA\mtwb3sh.dll

O2 - BHO: AskBar BHO - {201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll

O2 - BHO: Search Assistant - {F0626A63-410B-45E2-99A1-3F2475B2D695} - C:\Program Files\SGPSA\BHO.dll

O2 - BHO: XBTBPos00 - {FCBCCB87-9224-4B8D-B117-F56D924BEB18} - C:\Program Files\Fast Browser Search\IE\FBStoolbar.dll

O3 - Toolbar: Fast Browser Search Toolbar - {1BB22D38-A411-4B13-A746-C2A4F4EC7344} - C:\Program Files\Fast Browser Search\IE\FBStoolbar.dll

O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll

then click "Fix Checked".

Close HijackThis, then restart your computer.

Do another HijackThis scan, then post that new log here.

---------------------------------------------------------------

When was the last time that you updated Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then run a scan with it, then allow it to fix EVERYTHING it found?

Here is my latest log. I haven't run malwarebytes yet. Ran it day before yesterday. Do you want me to run it now?

Thanks for posting the Malwarebytes scan log. It's clean.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Go here and click the green icon to download SUPERAntiSpyware. Close all open windows, then install it. Make sure that it installs the latest definition files.

Run a "quick scan" with it. When the scan is finished, select and allow it to fix EVERYTHING it finds. Restart your computer if prompted to.

Go into Preferences - Statistics/Logs, obtain a copy of the scan log, then post it here.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Can you advise what peripherals(printer, scanner, camera, webcam, iPod, etc.) you have connected to and use with that computer?

Thanks for the help! You were answered prayer.
What do you suggest for all of my security needs? I use my laptop for both home and work. I have three jobs. I am a youth director 30+ hours a week, work as a maintenance man for a condo association two days a week and do side jobs with my free time I am using lots of communication vessels to keep up with youth, parents, friends and family and going through this last virus cleanup was frustrating. Mainly because I left my common sense in the back seat so to speak.

Thanks again

I use my digital camera memory card to upload pics. A flash drive to transfer files from comp to comps at church, a usb chord at church from printer to comp. That's about it.

I currently have Windows Defender, Firewall along with Security Solutions AntiVirus and the recently installed Malwarebytes. Not been a fan with the architecture of Security Solutions.

Do I need to remove any of my current security software before loading new stuff like the superantispyware you are suggesting, which by the way, I had on my old system and liked.

You should disable Windows Defender. It's useless anyway.

Replace it with the free versions of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware. Simply run periodic scans.

If you don't mind paying a small fee for an excellent product, get yourself ESET Smart Security and ditch Security Solutions.

You have too many Startup applications loading with Windows. This can significantly increase your Startup time.

You should definitely trim it down. You have too many processes running in the background.

Click on Start > Run > and type msconfig.

Under the Startup tab, uncheck all unnecessary applications. Use these three websites to help you decide which items to uncheck:

Startup applications #1

Startup applications #2 (for this one, you can paste the whole 04 entry)

Startup applications #3

Simply copy and paste the .exe files you see at the end of your HijackThis log's 04 (Startup) entries one by one.

Remember, a lot of applications can be started manually when needed.

As a side note, if you decide to install a security suite like ESET, which includes a firewall, don't forget to disable Vista's firewall.
