I have used either AVG or Avira until MSE came out. It is real light and easy to navigate and seems to be rated very good.

In all this time(2000 until now) I have never had a problem with a virus and maybe some minor malware.

you may have read that I've had huge problems after installing Sunbelt Firewall, it virtually rendered my pc useless! they say it conflicts with Avast and Superantispware, wish I'd known that beforehand! had to re install windows because of it, that's what is making me more wary of downloading any new programmes.

I had Kerio firewall before getting my new laptop with Vista on it and have only had the firewall that comes with Vista since then. Probably not to safe but have had no problems yet.

I think I've tried almost every free firewall out there! My favourite was always ZA until recently, sadly with new versions new irritants abound!

Here is something that was posted yesterday by a moderator in the MSE forums. It might explain the updating a little better for those using MSE. Hope it helps

I have used AVG (Paid Version) on my 3 home pc's until last week. With the release of AVG 9.0, I found Windows Defender and Malwarebytes were conflicting with it, and it was causing slow down of startup and shutdown - as well as keeping around 100 temporary files open.

So.....I uninstalled AVG on 1 desktop and 1 laptop and installed MSE. So far, I am very pleased with the results. The 2 pc's with MSE now startup and shutdown noticeably faster, scan times (fast scan) are much faster on MSE than on AVG, and the ease of use with MSE is better. For users who are not technically proficient (like my family members) I find MSE much better.

I am usually skeptical of Microsoft, but in this case, I will give credit where credit is due. I would recommend at least trying it to people just want a good, easy to use protection. (BTW my license for AVG is in effect until November, 2010, so money is not my reason for changing)

I'm undecided simply because I've used Avast for quite some time now and I like it.
