Microsoft Security Essentials
For those who are interested in trying it out, the final version is due to be released soon.

Here is some reading.

Here is the Microsoft site for it. As you can see, it's still in beta version.

Microsoft Security Essentials is an anti-virus, You can get a lot of problems from having more than 1 anti-virus installed on 1 computer,

So if you want to try Microsoft Security Essentials you should completely uninstall your current anti-virus instead of just disabling it.

Hi Gizzy,

I had multiple AVs on my WinXP with no problems, i.e. the only problem is if you run them both at the same time.

It is ok to have more than one, just make sure that only one if configured as your main AV, i.e. on the startup list, and the other can be run in Safe Mode before any other software is launched.

I had TrendMicro's PC-cillen as my main AV, and ran AVG free in Safe Mode on the weekends doing a full disk scan. Belarc Advisor inventoried both AVs on my system.

Microsoft to release free antivirus PC software.

The date of the article is Sept 29, 2009 - so, I assume it has now been released as of this past Tuesday, unless they are referring to Update Tuesday which is the second Tuesday every month.

Microsoft Essentials Download

Yes it is possible to use more than one AV but I still wouldn't suggest it,

There could be conflicts from just having them installed even though one isn't running, from services or the way they hook into the computer, Sometimes AVs won't even work/install right if there's just leftovers from a past AV,

Just because one combination might work doesn't mean they all do.

And since the bulk of what they detect is usually the same I don't see the point when a person's time and computer resources can be best used installing other forms of protection (LUA, Sandboxing, Behavior Blocker, etc.) which would give them much better security than 2 overlapping AVs.

Seems like too much hassle and risk of conflict for such a small gain to me.

If someone really wants a second opinion from a different scanner then there's plenty of online scanners to use.

Hi,
I know I have to un-install my AV before downloading Microsoft Essentials. What I want to know is can I keep my Malwarebytes and SpywareBlaster installed? Thank you.
