Solved: AVG8 scan

I got the blue screen this morning when i turned on my laptop, so restarted in safe mode and ran a AVG8 scan. So it took forever and all of the files it scanned cam back "locked file. not tested" What the heck does that mean? Should i buy a better virus software or is this one good enough and is it safe to restart my laptop in regular mode. I am not using the laptop.

If you can boot in Normal Mode,

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

You need to run the program in Normal Mode.

Do you really mean every file came back that way? You do realize there could be 65 to 85,000 files on your pc.

I must not have copied the whole file.. here I go again. And I don't know how many files there were on the AVG scan but everyone of them said the same "File locked, not tested"

I think it showed all the scans that way because I was in safe mode. I am running another scan in Normal mode. I will let you know how that turns out.

Not sure if it's related but it's possible. You still have traces of Symantec on your computer. Run the Norton Removal Tool. Norton is notorious for various conflicting issues when not properly uninstalled.

It must have been the problem that I was in safe mode. I ran another scan and it is just fine. So do you think the Norton remains is what is causing the blue screen? Anyway I will run the uninstall,

AVG should work in Safe Mode like all other antivirus programs.

Definitely remove Norton's remains...

Ha! I had an ex husband named Norman, that reminded me of him..(removing the remains)

Any way I did a add remove programs and can't find Norton. Also did a search and nothing came up. Where is it?
