#16 | i was and will compare it to them, i was talking about all that you pay for....and ive benn riped off enough to know that most are worse.
and things like schools and the public library are what i had in mind when i mentioned the donations....cheaper for them but they still pay...dont know why but they do. more of that money goes to upgrading or updating their product, yes i know they also have ones you buy...i kind of said that when i posted the AVG Free link.
in my opinion, and in many peoples opinion, the free is better, they dont make a profit off of it and the money they do get goes to them fixing or making the product better. and yes i agree....mcafee and norton are really bad, i dont think they will be here much longer though....i think spybot S&D are going to sue norton and put them out of business(norton said that their products clash....and they dont i guess) but than those people that buy from norton will probably go to mcafee....so i guess they will be ok... | | Distinguished Member with 14,194 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2001 Location: Behind my wall Experience: WTH??? |

#17 | I am using Microsoft security essentials. It seems to be doing a very good job without a bunch of nagging. Light and no advertising.
As far as the best? Well we are all going to have our opinions. Eset is good. | | Distinguished Member with 20,637 posts. | | Join Date: May 2006 Location: Eastern Pa Experience: Advanced |

#18 | Let me register more kudos for Nod32 as it is not only the best IMHO, but along with Bit Defender and Kaspersky mentioned, make up the only 3 that have real antispyware protection "at the gate" as well and what that means is while they cannot scan for spyware, spyware is the main problem today not virus and those 3 can detect virus like behavior and refuse entry where as all the others mentioned, let in and try to remove. NO genius requirement here to see why this method is better and Nod32 is worth every penny spent on it.
What I will never understand is why people will spend hard earned $ on a pc and believe that they have fully protected their investment with something that they didn't pay a dime for. How does the free program pay for support which is so essential as the processes change every single day in this war. Do you work for nothing? Do you think Avg has any philantropists onboard who work for nothing. Avira? Please I clean pc's all week long innundated with malware and sitting in the tray are pretty icons from Avg, Avira red umbrella, Norton and MacAfee Shields scanning and updating away doing absolutely nothing about the issues! | | Junior Member with 2 posts.

#20 | The experienced user can use anything and probably survive I should add, but that isn't the user whose machines are rendered useless easily and often that I repair all week long either so when I put down Avg, Avira, Avast, Norton, MacAfee and Pc Cillan, I am only referring to the average user. I am sure I could survive nicely with Avira and maybe even no antivirus, but not my clients, that's for sure and if any of that is what they want to use, I don't keep them as clients any more, I used to. | | Junior Member with 9 posts.

#23 | i have never herd about ESET, and im not saying AVG Free ist he best...i nver said that, i know it doesnt have all round protection...if it even has it, i only have it so my computer wont tell me i have no AV, i have kasperskys and malwearbytes and spywearblaster for all of that stuff, and sometimes i look and get different online scans.
i agree with you compleatly, i could get by with no AV or any kind of protection, but if you dont know what to do you cant do that, i understand whats bad and when my computer is messing up(like right now...i think ive got a pretty smart virus lol) AVG and Avista im my opinon arnt the best, but when it comes to being free...they are, kasperskys and malwearbytes are the 2 best programs i know of and i have never herd about this ESET so theres no way id try it (IMO) | | Distinguished Member with 28,053 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: uk Experience: Chocoholic |

He hasn't written anything since the 9th.

| Eset is NOD32. Consumer Reports picked it as #1 AV last month. Not that it means anything.
I've been using Eset/NOD32 for about 5 years now. It's intercepted a lot of bad stuff and I've never been infected. | | Account Disabled with 241 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: sioux city iowa Experience: Intermediate |

#30 | Personaly i think Norton and Mcafee are the worst ones, they clog up the computer and dont even work properly!
i installed AVG after and it picked up 4 viruses as soon as it was installed, never had any problems, its saved my arse lots of times
