Mourning the loss of our friend, WhitPhil.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but they're the easiest to answer.

Solved: lists of serious viruses?
Just wondering if there is a place where I can go to compare the processes running on my various machines against a known list of viruses?

I've noticed some that can't be stopped... don't have the authorization?!?!?

And I have 2 I need to try restoring, somehow!

thanks

Here are a couple sites to check processes:

http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/

What processes are you talking about?

lsass.exe is a basic Windows process that is needed for Windows to work properly, so it can't normally be stopped. http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/lsass/

If you want me to check out your HJT log you could post it in your reply.

I'm not a malware expert, but from what I can see it looks like your system is clean.

You have Zone Alarm which is a good firewall and Windows Defender for spyware but it doesn't look like you have any anti-virus program.

I would get avast! Home Edition, a good freeware anti-virus program. Windows Defender isn't as good as it once was so I would replace it with SUPERAntiSpyware FREE Edition and run occasional scans.

Your system would run a litttle faster if you turned off some of your startup programs. These are some you can turn off:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BigFix] c:\program files\Bigfix\bigfix.exe /atstartup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\Windows\system32\hkcmd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Persistence] C:\Windows\system32\igfxpers.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MoneyAgent] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\mnyexpr.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] "C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe"

There might be a few others too, you can look them up here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/

This explains how to use Msconfig to turn off startups: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.html

More info here: http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php

It also looks like you have an older version of Java installed, get the newest version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
