I have a Bell Inspiron laptop, using Windows XP.

Whenever I'm on line, I suddenlly start to hear what seems to be a radio transmission. It comes and goes. I can eliminate it -only temporarily, by going into the Task Manager, where it's listed iexplore.exe.

If I'm actually using IE (version 8, it happened also when I had version7), there are two iexplorer.exe listed in the Task Manager.

Any way of identifying the source of problem -where and why it shows up, and eliminating it?

Have you tried running IE without the Add-ons? See if you still get the sound.

If so,

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

It may not be related to the issue but just in case, remove traces left by Symantec using the Norton Removal Tool. Norton is notorious for all sorts of conflicting issues when not properly uninstalled.

If still no luck, try a Clean Boot to isolate a possible culprit from your list of programs loading at Startup.

Also, do not use crapware like Error Repair Professional or any other registry cleaners. You'll only end up rendering programs, and maybe Windows itself, inoperable.

Is there any way MusicMatch, which is loading in your Startup processes, could be playing music in the background?

Click on Start > Run and type msconfig.

Under the Startup tab, locate an uncheck any MusicMatch related items. Reboot.

As best I can tell, there is no Music Match loading; what I hear, by the way, is more than much more music, it has a distinct radio station sound to it.

maybe an annoying cookie, worm or add on? clean boot is good and try booting into safe mode and disable all non important services
