ESET NOD32 antivirus and antispyware
Hello,
Is it necesary to use ESET NOD32 antivirus and antispyware program ? NOD32 has antispyware module but maybe with other antispyware is more effective. What do you think ?

I have ESET Smart Security and I've also installed the free versions of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SuperAntiSpyware and SpywareBlaster.

Do they use to find something even you have ESET Smart Security ? Do you think it is necessary to have installed 3 antispyware programs ?

ESET is primarily an antivirus, not an anti-spyware, even if they claim to stop spyware. MBAM and SAS look for spyware more specifically.

The free versions of MBAM and SAS will not run in the background. You can run a manual scan once a week.

In ESET NOD32 Antivirus there is information: http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/2616/nod32.png
And what do you think about Spybot - Search & Destroy ?

I know it says antispyware. Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, BitDefender, AVG and all the others claim the same thing too. But, as I've already stated, MBAM and SAS are made especially to detect spyware and other types of malware. ESET, Kaspersky, BitDefender... primarily detect viruses, although viruses are not as common as other types of malware anymore. It's still very important to have an antivirus though.

What's particular about ESET though, is its ThreatSense. ESET has, in my opinion, the best heuristic capability in the industry. So, it makes it very effective against any type of malware, like spyware.

Regarding Spybot, it's complicated and risky to use when you don't know what is right or wrong to delete. It's also not as effective and userfriendly as MBAM and SAS.

In your personal opinion which program do you prefer more: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or SuperAntiSpyware ?

They are both excellent. One may find things the other doesn't. That's why I run them both (free versions without real-time scanning). SAS will point out tracking cookies if you care about them. MBAM couldn't care less. Tracking cookies are mostly harmless anyway.

And why SUPERAntiSpyware has tray icon if it is not real time ?

Because you have to specifiy that you do not want to have SAS running at Startup. It's never in real-time unless you get yourself the paid version.

Open SAS > Preferences... > General and Startup tab > uncheck the "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box.

Also, under Preferences... > General and Startup tab > uncheck the "Show SUPERAntiSpyware icon in system tray" box.

While you're at it, also uncheck the "Show splash screen on startup" box.

I agree with Phantom. That's exactly what I run. Eset SS, SAS and MBAM.
The only difference is I have the Pro versions and can run real time if wanted.
The 3 of them play well together, no compatibility issues.

Definitely the best I've used. You can go into the ESET advanced menu and tighten down the settings
for even stronger protection. Good instructions on this over at Wilder's in the ESET forums.
