Solved: Cleaning registery threats
Hi All.

PC Tools spy doctors reported that reigistery is infected, as I am not regiatered user I am not able to clean registery (winxp pro). I am running avg free edition that is not reporting these infections. I need help to have it cleaned using freeware security application.

personally I would not clean registrys - thise programs cause lots of issues - just reading posts here
Howveverr others may have a better idea

but that would be mine
Ignore the programs that say you have a probelm and now pay us to fix it - when the machine is running perfect

If you're using PC Tools Spyware Doctor and PC Tools Registry Mechanic, get rid of them.

Download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41 and SUPERAntiSpyware 4.29.0.1004 for your anti-malware/anti-spyware arsenal. They're very user-friendly, they do a very good job, they're much lighter on system resources, and they're well-known and respected in these forums.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 9.0 was released yesterday, so download and install it if you haven't yet. It'll overwrite and replace the older version during the install process. Decline to install the AVG toolbar and the Yahoo search engine, unless you really want them.

you could post a HJT Log here - see link in signature for program - and I can move to the HJT forum, but it may take a couple of days before a guru gets around to look at the log...

I use spybot search and destroy, Ad-Aware all free
and recently
Malwarebytes and Superantispyware but only use these with advice from the HJT forum gurus, with a shield

Go ahead and post a HijackThis log here so we can see what's installed and running in the background and if any obvious infection is present.

It's a diagnostic and troubleshooting utility that's used quite a bit in these forums for assisting users like you. You'll want to keep it in your computer so you can use it whenever it's needed.

Download and install it, close all open windows, run a scan with it - which will take 30 seconds or less, then return here and copy-and-paste the entire log.

I've used PC Tools Spyware Doctor in the past and wound up uninstalling it and throwing away $30.00 because it was very system-hungry and problematic.

You don't want to install and use any kind of registry cleaner/booster/optimizer, no matter what it claims it can do. They don't increase speed or performance. What they do is break certain programs and damage the operating system.

Your log shows 2 anti-virus programs (Grisoft AVG Free Edition 8 and COMODO Internet Security) installed and running at the same time. Multiple anti-virus programs will fight with each other, bog down a computer, and make it more susceptible to infection. One of them needs to go. I recommend you get rid of COMODO because it's low on the list for doing a good job.

Grisoft AVG Free Edition 9.0 is out. Download it, close all open windows, then install it. It'll overwrite and replace version 8. Decline to install the AVG toolbar and the Yahoo search engine. After restart, you'll be offered to run an "optimized scan". Read the information posted and decide if you want to run it.

You've got over-kill with toolbars, over-kill with anti-spyware/anti-malware programs, too many unneeded programs installed, and too many programs automatically loading during startup and running in the background.

I'd get rid of Spyware Terminator and Spybot - Search & Destroy and use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware, but the choice is yours.

Startup Delayer and Internet Download Manager and Crawler are useless to have.

Is IObit Security 360 still installed? I don't see it in the list of running processes or in the startup list, but it's in the services list.
