Turning you Data Drive off with XP
If you have a second data drive attached internally to your computer with
a ribbon connector. Is there a way to turn it off in XP by software?
I use a second drive on my computer for data and misc stuff. I would like to disconnect
it by software so I am sure that no spyware is accessing it. The hardware solution
to this is to make it into a USB drive and unplug it when when I surf the net. Is there
a software way to turn it off and not have anyone looking at it when I surf
the net?

Thank you,

The answer to the is NO i am afraid. You cannot turn off a second hard drive by software when they are both plugged in internally. Either all of them are turned off (shutdown) or none of them are. The only way to do it is to buy a sata hard drive reader and turn it into a external one as you said.

I think I am going to use a USB port and just unplug the thing.

When shutting down my computer I have had the message "Your computer
is being used by another user do you want to continue shutdown. I am wondering
if I am having an unwant visitor there??

If another user account was logged on and then did a 'switch user', then that account is still 'active'. Then if you do a shutdown, the warning will show.
