Solved: How to access secure documents???

i am currently tryin to access files on a hard drive connected thru a usb. all of the files except documents and settings are accesible. i went into the properties and it shows full access but when i try to open it, it says access denied???? Does anyone have any suggestions???

Try taking ownership of the files.

If you can't view the Security tab, follow these steps:

For Windows XP Pro

For XP Home, simply boot into Safe Mode and the Security tab should be visible.

If still no joy, try the free Unlocker. After installing the program, right-click on your Documents and Settings folder and you'll see the Unlocker icon. Click on it. A window with all the folder's content will open. You'll have the options to unlock the files you need or all of them. It should do the trick.

In situtations like these, we prefer not to go beyond the taking ownership option as we don't know the actual situation or intent.

Honestly didn't think there was anything wrong with my suggestion.

It's not the first time this legitimate app is suggested for similar issues on TSG.

No passwords had to be broken. I hope you're not considering this as a rule infrigement.

i work at a computer repair store. i had a customers hdd connected to my store comp to back up data. thats all.

I was under the impression that this program gave access to files that were password protected so I checked with other moderators to be sure and found out that I was mistaken about that so I have restored your post.

I sincerely apologize Phantom for removing it too hastily.
