Thank you Phantom between you and Flavallee, my comp is running far better than it has in 6 mos. Startup is faster, but still seems slower than it has in the way past when comp. was clean. Is there anything else I should be thinking about, or am I just being too demanding? Or have I just done perm damage with my registry cleaner stunt.

Use the instructions in post #15 to research the rest of the startup list in Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - Startup(tab). There are a few more entries that you can uncheck and prevent from automatically loading and running.

I agree that there are some additional items, but they were mostly the wireless utility, and other items that were marked as U which made me unsure of what I should do, and if I truely needed them. Can you tell me exactly which items you feel are questionable and I will turn them off without concern. Thanks

I don't use a wireless connection and I don't use a webcam like you have in that computer, so I'm going to leave those startup entries alone.

If you use an external USB mouse or just the basic functions of the Synaptics touchpad, you can probably uncheck the 2 SynTP startup entries.

You should be able to uncheck the SoundMAX startup entry.

If you don't connect any Bluetooth devices, you can uncheck that startup entry.

Never ever install and use a registry cleaner/booster/optimizer, no matter what it claims it can do. It does nothing to improve speed or performance. What it does is break programs and damage the operating system.

I am worried that having loaded PC tools Registry Mechanic onto my PC I have done the wrong thing. I thought it had been looking after my PC and seems to be quite active, and often repairing. I guess from what you are saying I would be wise to clear it off the PC ?

I dont believe that registry cleaners do anything good for your registry, iv said it before and ill say it again its like trying to hoover sand off a desert, and those "ERRORS" it fixes......... Causes more harm than good, i Did two scans with RegCure, back to back, The 1st i did showed something crazy like 1955 "errors" i Restarted And scanned again, ant it showed 648 "errors"

DONT MESS WITH YOUR REGISTRY.
