Cool Computer slow at startup
I have been doing some of my own work on cleaning upmy comp. from viruses, but still need some professional assistance. I have read a few of your posts, and see there may be a need to shut off some programs that run at startup, and in the background. Can you please look at my hijack this log, and tell me what I need to turn off/on and any other clean-up issues or if I still have any viruses. I am currently using NOD32 free trial, and Malwarebyts, I have removed: McAfee, Spysweeper, AVG, and many other freeware that I had uploaded to help clean-up. I also ran a registry scanner, and that took a while, but is saying there are errors in my computeLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

I downloaded many different programs (freeware) and used them, and then removed them. One of the registry cleaners was wise registry cleaner. I also used advanced system care which scaned for spyware, and did maintenance work as well as registry repair and clean-up. When I was looking up the software to respond the computer just acts funny. for instance I had opened another tab to review cnet, and easily come back to answer as I figured out items, and the pages just won't load, or are very slow at loading. also periodically when I am on facebook, playing a game, or anything else the computer will lock up, and takes as long as 15 minutes to unlock, and allow me to close a window, or even shut down.

Hi super1, I am not qualified to help you remove viruses or malware but i can tell you that the first thing that the qualified personell in this forum will tell you is, that it is not advised to use any kind of registry cleaner/booster or optimizer because they can really mess up your computer a lot more than it is already. I have been there and it ended up costing me big bucks to fix what i should have asked help here for. Using a registry cleaner can totally screw up your system so that it wont even boot up. Be patient and I am sure someone will be along to help you soon.

A registry scanner is going to tell you there's "errors" in your computer, whether there is or not, because that's how the company suckers you into buying the program.

Never ever install and use a registry cleaner/booster/optimizer, no matter what it claims it can do. It does nothing to improve speed or performance. What it does is break programs and damage the operating system.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Installing and using and then uninstalling all these anti-virus programs and anti-malware/anti-spyware programs isn't helping things any. All those installs and uninstalls has likely left remnants all over your computer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere. It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

Some registry cleaners are scams and spyware. Some report errors that don't exist. Sometimes randomly generating the number of errors on your registry.

Listen to what the others have to say, i was going to go an rant right after you told me what you used......

Reg apps are NOTHING but trouble i could go on and on but i wont, it woul be like trying to clean the statue of liberty with a toothbrush and no ladder.

Only Mess with apps on a system you KNOW YOU DONT need and you KNOW you can wipe clean if all fails (AND IT WILL IF YOU KEEP USING REG SOFTWARE)

If you really want to optimise your reg Use
ntregopt.

if you have questions feel free to ask.
Neb.

Uninstall these programs. Some of them aren't needed and others can be problematic.

Acrobat.com

Adobe AIR

Logitech Desktop Messenger

Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007

Microsoft Silverlight

Windows Search 4.0

After you're done, restart your computer.

Start HijackThis and run a scan, then post that new log here.

What peripherals(printer, scanner, webcam, camera, iPod, etc.) are you using with or have connected to that computer?

Here you go Flavallee. As far as peripherals, 90% of the time I have nothing hooked up to it, because it is a laptop, but I have many different printer drivers downloaded on to it, because I use this computer for work and personal and it travels to work with me, and I print items at work as well as home. I also use the SD slot to upload pictures onto the computer, I have used a webcam in the past, but have not used it for more than 6 mos. That's about it, hope it helps. Also in hopes it might help, When I start up, or in the case of me just rebooting after deleting the requested programs, I receive a black screen that has the Windows XP emblem, and the time bar at the bottom. This screen has been running extrememly long lately, like maybe I ruined something with the reg cleaner, and it's looking harder? I don't know you tell me.

Start HijackThis and run a scan, then put a checkmark in

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.crawler.com/search/dispat...=%s&tbid=60076

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {1CB20BF0-BBAE-40A7-93F4-6435FF3D0411} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DWQueuedReporting] "c:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\dwtrig20.exe" -t

then click Fix Checked - Yes, then close HijackThis.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Start Malwarebytes, then run its update function and get it up-to-date, then run a quick scan with it. When the scan completes, select and allow it fix EVERYTHING it finds, then restart your computer.

Go into its logs section, obtain a copy of the scan log, return here, then post the scan log here.

Malwarebytes came up clean. That's good.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Go here and click the green icon to download SUPERAntiSpyware 4.29.0.1004.

Close all open windows, then install it. Allow it to update its definition files during the install process.

Start it and run a "quick scan" with it.

When the scan is finished, select and allow it fix EVERYTHING it finds.

Restart your computer afterwards.

Start SUPERAntiSpyware and go into Preferences - Statistics/Logs(tab) to obtain the scan log.

Return here, then post that scan log here.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Unless something else needs to be addressed, we're going to work next on getting that bloated startup load trimmed down.

You have too many Startup applications loading with Windows and too many processes running in the background. This can significantly increase your Startup time and affect overall performance.

You should definitely trim down your Startup list. Other than your security software, very few applications need to load with Windows at startup.

Click on Start > Run > and type msconfig.

Under the Startup tab, uncheck all unnecessary applications. Use these three websites to help you decide which items to uncheck:

Simply copy and paste the .exe files you see at the end of your HijackThis log's 04 (Startup) entries one by one.

1-
System Lookup (my favorite - for this one, you can paste the whole 04 entry)

2-
PC Review - Startup Files Database

3-
Startup Applications List

Remember, a lot of applications can be started manually when needed.

A list of names and files will appear. At the end of each entry, you'll notice a symbol:

Y = Normally leave to run at start-up

N = Not required - often infrequently used tasks that can be started manually, if necessary

U = User's choice - depends whether a user deems it necessary

X = Malware, spyware, adware, or other potentially unwanted items

? = Currently unknown status

Make sure to choose the correct information in the list, relating to the actual programs installed on your computer. Do not be alarmed by red "Xs" pointing to malware, especially if I haven't seen any in your HijackThis log. I do check before recommending this trimming.

Example:

Copy the following entry from your HijackThis log:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime

Paste it in this website: 1-
System Lookup

Now
here is what you get. On line #7, you'll see the Name (QuickTime Task), the Filename (Qttask.exe), the Description and at the end of the line, you'll see a N, meaning Not required - often infrequently used tasks that can be started manually, if necessary. So, you can without a doubt uncheck it from your Startup list.

After rebooting, when the small System Configuration Utility window appears, ignore the message. Put a check mark in that window, then click OK.
