Vibre
Have you ever heard of sunbelt's "VIBRE", I heard that it doesn't hog up your system like AVG does.

Actually, I was mistaken. There IS an AVG process in your output which is usnig 49% of the CPU. It does appear that a scan of some sort is running. If you sort the CPU column, as I suggested, it makes it easier to see ALL of the processes consuming CPU and allows us to get a better idea of your system load at the time you experience slow performance.

I took another look at the schedule settings screenshots and saw the "Run at computer startup" options are checked. Uncheck those so AVG won't scan anything when the system boots.

Peace...

I haven't heard of VIBRE and I haven't had problems with AVG hogging system resources.

Peace...

screen prints at boot up (2)
Here are a couple of screen shots during boot up.
I took 2 because it constantly changes.
The Hard drive light ran for 9 minutes.
I'll try your suggestion earlier on the computer, if
I can figure it out.
Thanks for your help.

When it boot up, AVG load first (task bar)
Then Sunbelts firewall load 2nd, it takes a few moments for that to load.

update manager
I turned off the update manager, everything else is on.
I can still update manually, correct? By just shutting
down the update manager, the program won't give
me automatic updates, I have to do it myself.
I need to understand that part.
Thanks

I believe you can run manual updates with the update manager disabled but I'm not sure.

I looked up the avgcsrvx.exe executable, the one taking up the CPU resources, and found it's the resident shield. Others have reported it comsuming a lot of CPU:

If you continue having problems, maybe you just need to use another anti-virus app.

Peace...

Other systems
Well I'm glad (I Guess), that it's not just my problem, others have the same issue on boot up. These files are hogs. I guess I just have to wait.
Thanks for you time in this matter, it is appreciated.

Version of AVG
I have the Free Version of AVG, and Sunbelt's Personal Firewall Version 4.6. I paid for that. Yes, it is a trusted firewall. It's the old "kerio" firewall, I think they bought them out. They always give me updates, and support is excellant. It's just the AVG files that are the *.exe in the task manager take so long to load, they need to fix that.

Sorry I have not followed up with this AVG9.0/Zone Alarm issue earlier, but did not have access to my pc for awhile. Anyway, after installing AVG9 I then went ahead and reinstalled ZA. Then I noticed that my pc was not loading websites completely and was locking up. Task Manager showed CPU usage 100%. I could not figure out what was causing the lockups, whether it was IE7 or AOL or AVG, as both Avg, (showing 6 applications) and Aol ( with 6 applications) running simultaneously along with System Idle Process were constantly changing - so then I decided to uninstall AVG, and noticed that websites were able to load quicker and completely.
(I am now using Avira AntiVir). I also installed Firefox.

After uninstalling AVG I did a Search for AVG files and apparently it was uninstalled
successfully (??) since Search results showed no files. I had also deleted entries from the registry. However, I did not run the AVG 'uninstall tool' since Search showed no files found. Should I still d/l and run the AVG removal tool even now no files are found? From what I've been reading on these forums, AVG can still cause problems even after it has been uninstalled?

I am wondering if this is what's causing my present problem. When loading a website, Waol.exe and System Idle Process fluctuates and CPU usage is 100%.

I would very much appreciate any answers to my concerns. Thanks again for all help.

Any answers to my question...as to whether I still need to d/l and run the AVG removal tool - even though Windows Search shows no files found? (after I uninstalled it). I would appreciate any helpful suggestions. Many thanks for all the help received.
