AVG9.0/Zone Alarm
I just installed AVG 9.0 successfully. However, in order to do so AVG instructed me to uninstall my firewall which is Zone Alarm...which I did uninstall...so now I have no Firewall protection (beside basic Windows Firewall)?. I previously had AVG 8.5 and had no conflicts with ZA installed. I really would like to have an additional Firewall protection installed, and I am wondering if any of you pros here would have any idea about this conflict with AVG 9.0 and Zone Alarm, and any solutions.
Please advise. Thanks so much.

This is a known issue with the AVG 9 installer. It will recommend that you uninstall either the ZoneAlarm or Comodo firewalls if it detects either is installed.

I had no problem getting AVG 9 installed with ZoneAlarm being installed but I actually ran into a compatibility issue with ZoneAlarm such that sites would stall while loading. So, I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and installed the Comodo firewall and that issue went away.

Peace...

Something has apparently changed with AVG 9 such that ZoneAlarm and Comodo are flagged as being "issues" at install time. AVG developers are looking into the issue. This has been reported on the AVG support forum.

On my mom's computer, she's been running ZoneAlarm with AVG 8.x for years and without problems so I'm not sure what's up.

Additionally, with ZoneAlarm specifically some (including me) have reported issues loading websites after installing AVG 9. After switching from ZoneAlarm to Comodo, the issue went away for me. Disabling the surf shield in AVG appears to be a workaround.

Peace...

AVG 9.0 and Subelts Purchased 4.6
My AVG installed good with no problems with Sunbelt's Personal Firewall 4.6. However, I noticed a slower boot up. My windows is up and running, but my hard drive is still working. After going into the task manager, I see that AVGRSX.EXE, AVGCSRVX.EXE, and AVGCHSUX.EXE (I think those were the exe's), were still working. Once they stopped, about 10 minutes later, my computer worked faster. While these were loading, all applications were slow. Does anyone know what I can do with these files, or do I have to live with slow boot-ups?
Thanks

Sounds like AVG was updating and/or running a scan.
I have my AVG set to update or scan manually .. when it won't bother me.

I will look to see how it is set, it may be scanning on boot up, shouldn't it?

Depends on if it's set to scan/update automatically .. and when.

You shouldn't schedule the scan to run at 12:00pm (noon) if the system will be in use at that time. If the system will be in use, performance will go down because AVG will be "spinning the disk" (the hard drive) while it scans. Will the system be unused at noon?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see where you disabled the automatic scan and update.

Peace...

scanning
I have a list of things to do everyday when I turn on the computer.
One is do an update to AVG.
Take a look at my task manager, this is what takes so long to load at bootup.
This is only one of several AVG.....*exe that have to load. The hard drive
keeps working for about 10 minutes, until all the AVG....*exe are loaded.
Then it works fine

What you should do is click the "CPU" column heading TWICE, once to sort the list of running processes by CPU usage ascending and then again to sort the list descending. Doing this will make the process that is taking the most CPU appear at the top of the list and you can see what might be "spinning the disk".

The AVG processes shown now, in your screenshot, are idle and not doing anything. If AVG was scanning, an AVG process would be using some percentage of CPU and probably some double-digit percentage.

Peace...

Idle AVG
That screen shot was taken after about 30 minutes on the pc.
It doesn't really give you a good shot at what is happening.
Sorry
But I know AVG is slowing the computer down.
Is it scanning something I can't see? Like system files, etc?

I really meant is avg "loading" their files, and maybe scanning, I don't know.
