Solved: How do I remove AVG toolbar?
XP Pro
I.E. 6
SP 2

Must I reinstall AVG Free without the option of adding the toolbar?

Not quite sure with IE6 but I'll try:

View > Toolbars > Uncheck "AVG Toolbar" possibly.

Ok, that removed it from I.E. toolbar, but I'd like to completely remove it from the computer. I imagine it's still running in the background? The less (unnecessary) things going on, the better.

In control panel go to "add or remove programs", and see if anything like "AVG security toolbar" is there.

Already tried that initially. Just AVG is in there.

What version of AVG Free Edition are you currently using?

If it's not version 9.0.698, go here and click the green icon to download it.

Close all open windows, then install it. It'll overwite and replace the current version that's installed

Decline to install the AVG toolbar and the Yahoo search engine.

Restart your computer when prompted to.

When you're asked to run the optimized scan, decline to do so because it's not needed.

nopeeking:

You upgraded to AVG 9.0 and got rid of the toolbar? Good.

By the way, you should seriously consider upgrading IE6 to IE7 or IE8. You're missing out on a lot of security-related and other enhancements by staying with IE6. And some websites or some of their features will eventually stop working with IE6.
