Lost Password
Hi there, i have a very old laptop that i just want to use for typing. Its a Toshiba Portege 3110CT running Windows 2000. I have lost the password and cannot get past it. Tried F8 to fun in through Safe Mode, but still asking for Password. No Floppy or CD drive, external i think, but i dont have external drives. All i need it for is just for my typing, busy with a book. How do i bypass the Password option? I have tried using the username Administrator and password clear but no luck??
Please help??

Sorry, we cannot help with bypassing passwords issues. It's against forum rules.

Sorry.

Hi, We will be Closing the thread but I thought it might be good to post this....

As you've heard, we don't help with password issues in the public forums.... this is a Rule here. Yes, there are forums where they could help.

If there was no password on the built-in Administrator account, pressing Enter at the Safe Mode login screen should have let you enter.

If you don't find good help anyplace, just keep in mind that a clean install of Windows will let you use the machine. Some notebooks have built-in security chips that it is quite possible is present in this Toshiba- if so, it locks the machine unless you know the password and it can lock the hard drive plus the computer itself....there won't be any reinstalling on this type.

IBM ThinkPads have a similar security chip, I know because I bought a used one, and somehow it reverted to the old security password and I am locked out ot it.

It's not possible for us to give help with that, either but if you are the original owner it might be a good idea to talk to Toshiba support, if your machine does have that type of security chip. For IBMs, there are companies that can unlock them for a good price, I don't know about Toshiba's.
