Red face Windows XP Laptop - Security software checklist?
Dear Techguys,

With the relatively recent release of windows security essentials, I am asking myself the question; "what security software should I now be running on my XP laptop?"

currently I run;
avg anti virus,
windows firewall,
malware bytes,
superantispyware and
advanced system care.

What do techguys think think we should now be using to ensure good levels of security/safety?

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards,
Mike9inch

There are a few questions. Are you using a paid version of AVG, or free? Would you be willing to pay for security software?

Advanced system care is not needed. Uninstall it. Malwarebytes and SUPER Anti-Spyware are good options, run a quick scan of each every week.

AVG free is a great option if you are not willing to pay for security software. If you are on the free side of things, I'd advise you to download ZoneAlarm free firewall. If you are willing to pay for security, I'd totally advise Norton Internet Security 2010.

Hi mike, you could also add Spyware blaster if you wanted to. Just make sure you update it manually every few days. It does not update on its own. You can also take a snapshot of your system with it. http://www.filehippo.com/download_spywareblaster/
Another good tool is Winpatrol, you can check them out and try them to see if you like them. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Interne...inPatrol.shtml

AVG and Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware is all you need. You don't need all that other crap.

Stay away from registry cleaners and boosters and optimizers.
