There is an interesting piece about browser 'security' in a recent issue of the Windows Secrets Newsletter which contrasts nicely with the 'findings' of the net-security report ; http://WindowsSecrets.com/comp/091105 |
Essentially, studies like this are just press releases and publicity stunts. Cenzic sells some Web Application security products, (Interestingly enough they are partnered with the Mozilla Organization), and findings like this are always great attention getters.
However, Cenzic makes no effort to go beyond a head count of vulnerabilities reported. They make no attempt to report the vulnerabilities by severity, they don't say how many were zero day vulnerabilities, and they don't even report how long it took to patch any of the issues they reported. As a realistic indicator of the risk posed by using any of these browsers, the report is totally useless.
