Blocking reverse email lookups
I recently discovered when searching my eamil address on Spokeo, my name, loction city and my IP address was available. I am wondering for privacy reasons, if there is a way to block this information from such websites who can do these types of searches?

When you did the search, you just gave them all that info. Think about it.

1. You entered your email address to search?

2. They get your IP address every time you visit any website, they put 1 and 2 together.

3. With the IP they can determine your state and city.

People volunteer too much information, and most of it is sold for profit, no way to stop it.

Thank you very much. I clicked on the link regarding internet security and I appreciate the info. I am wondering if there is a program I can purchase which will block that stuff. I mean the IP address and loction? Or is there something in my computer I can do ? I really dont like having this kind of info out there and I understand its part of the computer world but when I read that in some cases it can actually reveal not only the city you live in but your home as well, it made me nervous. Please advise me. Thank you very much.

VPN service is the only thing I know of that does a good job of keeping you anonymous on the internet and also keeps your ISP from seeing what you are doing. Not Free though. There are other "programs" that claim it, but they are scams.

One of the few that I trust

And understand that even with a VPN your IP address is still revealed-all you can control is who you reveal it to. With a VPN, you reveal it to the VPN service. Without it you reveal it to every website you visit.

As for revealing your home, that would only be if you have a static IP address. Of course your ISP knows, each time you log on, who you are & what IP address is assigned to you for that session so, again, it's just a question of who you 'reveal' this information to. You simply can't use the Internet without revealing it to somebody.

From that point (e.g. your ISP) what others can find out depends on how much effort they want to spend digging for it. Which addresses are assigned to which ISP's is public, AFAIK, but I'm not sure all ISP's publicize how they split those up by location.
