Solved: stopped commercial intrusions
I didn't want to say "popups" because it is a different matter. My antivirus program (pc tools spyware doctor) gives me warnings that such and such a program wants to open and asks if I want to block it or open it. These queries popup in the lower right hand corner of the screen, and i always say "block". But they try to get in again and again.

My question is how can I get rid of these programs? I run adware and/or spyware doctor and no "threat" is found. Where are they?

thanks, Frank

depends on what the programs are - I used to use zonealarm and that would do it all the time, but you need to know what the program was and decide

lots of programs will get this pop up
any specific ones you have spotted???

thanks for the rapid response. You say I have to decide. I have decided. I don't want to have to do this. How can I stop them from butting in?

Again, what programs are they? If you're looking for generic advice, then you got it. Decide whether or not you want these programs & if you don't, uninstall them.

What I suspect the problem is is that you don't really know what programs they are. On my PC they tend to pop up with 'garbage' names such as Proxy4WLPG.exe-so I use Google & find that that's part of Snapfish, which I don't want so I uninstall Snapfish. Boom-no more popups from Proxy4WLPG.

The trick is in tracking down the application to which the program belongs to. Needless to say vendors that install software like this also don't provide very good documentation. (Like a crook leaving a note-just doesn't happen very often.)

So, generic advice? Uninstall everything except what you want to run. Then research the remaining popups. Hopefully everything remaining will be part of something you want, so you can allow them.

But if you're looking for specific advice then you're going to have to tell us which programs you want advice on.

Thanks for a great answer. I didn't give you the exact names because they have not popped up again. Maybe they went away or I cleaned them with my efforts. Nevertheless, your helped me: On my PC they tend to pop up with 'garbage' names such as Proxy4WLPG.exe-so I use Google & find that that's part of Snapfish, which I don't want so I uninstall Snapfish. Boom-no more popups from Proxy4WLPG.

That will be a big help when and if they come back. I will do that. If I have any further problem I will ask again. Thanks again. I will mark this as solved. Frank
